While we cannot truly worship God and relate to him without theological knowledge, it is equally true that a theological knowledge without any application can only puff us up, as Paul indicated in 1 Corinthians 8:1-2. We may think we know something, but do not yet know as we ought to know. There will be no spiritual benefits for us if we seek the knowledge of God with wrong motives. However, a good motive for knowing God will bring us closer to him, knowing about his majesty, holiness, justice, love, compassion, infinite power, eternity, wisdom, and overwhelming presence.
